CAMEL SAFARI
Camel Safaris are all the rage in Jaipur. We did not go on a true safari, but rather we took a short ride into the dunes to watch the sunset. We thoroughly enjoyed the adventure and highly recommend it.
Camel Safari experience will leave some unforgettable moments in your life. Thar - the Great India Desert, sprawls across the western extreme part of the state of Rajasthan in India, offering some very daunting sand zones of the world. Camel - ponderous, surly, smelly and generally unattractive are the main source of this safari on this sand zone.
The barren desert and drifting sand dunes of Rajasthan India will overwhelm you by sounds and sights, colours and fragrances. You will come closer to the real culture and tradition of Rajasthan, as the camel safari will enter deeper & deeper into the land. The camel safari will acquaint you with the desert life. Though there are many other means of touring the land of Jaipur, camel safari is the best way to explore this desert state of India. |

ELEPHANT RIDE
The most regal way of seeing Jaipur is on an elephant safari, since nothing can even compare with the majesty of the pachyderm-no wonder the rulers used elephants for their journeys. Equipped with a howdah, a large seat on which they would sit, complete with soft silk cushions, and with a ceremonial umbrella over their heads, modern day safaris may pale in comparison, but are no less regal on that account.
The elephant treads slowly and steadily, and a safari would be ideal in and around principal towns, especially in the vicinity of wildlife sanctuaries where the same elephants can do double-duty for viewing wildlife.
Jaipur was a favourite spot with the important personalities of the British Raj and the Maharajas always arranged for their guests of honour elephant rides up to the Amber palace. Even today, the elephant take tourists up to the Amber Palace. The mahout (Driver) would sit astride the elephant's neck, and direct the animal with his feet, and with a hafted hook and spike called an ankush. In addition to the mahout, a number of crew would sit astride the animal in a Howdah - a wooden framed seat, on elephant back like shuttle taxis.
Charging Rs 570 One Elephant and Two persons can visit one side. Elephant drop you in the Amber fort you return by foot your self.
It could be considered a transportation tip, but is also a pretty nice and different activity |
